Emma's Doll (Viking Kestrel picture books) - Tapa dura

Emma's doll is broken and cannot be repaired until the next day. Worried about her doll, and unable to sleep, Emma goes out in the middle of the night and finds herself in an enchanted wood. It is filled with an assortment of her toys and well-knowncharacters from familiar fairy tales and Emma asks them for help. Finally, a hippopotamus mends the doll by feeding her "the medicine of dreams" from a silver spoon. Emma and her doll return to bed through a now empty wood, and fall happily asleep.

Brian Patten started writing poetry when he was fourteen. He later started his own magazine, UNDERDOG, to publish unknown poets such as Roger McGough and Adrian Henri and the three went on to produce the best-selling MERSEY SOUND. Brian won the EricGregory Award in 1967 and was given an Arts Council Grant in 1969. He has published many books for adults and children and is known for his humour and lyricism. Brian was born in Liverpool and now lives in London.
