Descripción Cloth. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. Slight foxing to end inside covers. Slight wear to D/J. On a May morning in 1934 six men waited in the bushes flanking a winding country lane in Louisiana. Their planned ambush was the result of months of nerve-racking detective work on the part of law-enforcement officers from half-a-dozen counties. Their quarry was a young couple in their early twenties who had been responsible for the shooting of twelve people. In one Ford V-8 after another, each stolen in turn as the previous one wore out, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker had led the police a deathly dance for thousands of miles through a maze of minor back roads in the southern United States. In an exploding crescendo of noise lasting some minutes, they poured a continual stream of hot lead into the car they had been expecting. Astonished to find that no unbiased account had even been published of the lives of the most notorious folk heroes of the 1930s, the author set about sifting through the mass of conflicting evidence; he travelled to America to interview surviving eye-witnesses and anyone else who could throuw a clear light on Bonnie and Clyde. He also examined the whole process of myth-making and its importance in a world of science and technology. The story that emerges, at once appalling and heart-rending, at times an absurd burlesque on the more incompetent side of the American way of life, is probably as near as we shall ever come to the outlandish flesh and blood reality which gave rise to the legend. Illustrated. 245 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
