Críticas:
"A meaningful text that both conceptually and practically weaves feminist perspectives with qualitative research."--Iris M. Striediecil, Penn State University "A wonderful addition to the research on women's scholarship."--Shelley Park, University of Central Florida "A wonderful collection of works by feminist researchers! It has opened the doors for my students--many who thought research would be terrible are now enthused."--Lacey Sloan, SUNY at Buffalo "A core text for courses on feminist research methods."--Sujata Moorti, Old Dominion University "This is an interesting book which provides an easily readable introduction to an extensive amount of work in several areas of the social sciences done by feminists who employ a wide variety of research methods....[T]he book is useful for those who teach courses in methodology and many of the dilemmas of research noted by Reinharz can be used to stimulate class discussion."--Canadian Review of Sociology and Anthropology "This text is worthy of inclusion in every social research course."--Fred Dauser, Talladega College "An outstanding book which students find very helpful."--Mary Hunt, Georgetown University "This book is a delight to read...would be a useful addition to undergraduate and graduate methods courses in social research."--NWSA Journal full of examples of the research "Excellent survey of feminist methods."--Lucila Vargas, Bowling Green State University "Makes a useful addition to the text literature in research methods. The book is clearly written, packed with content and reflects a wealth of knowledge and experience."--Carlos Schmidt, University of Puerto Rico "An interesting text that shows, through its discussion of feminist practices, that social sciences is not and cannot be value free. Making values conscious and self-conscious allows researchers to contribute to scientaific progress within the context of their values."--Leo C. Rigsby, Temple University "Excellent book! Just what we need!"--Paul Rosenblatt, University of Minnesota "I used Reinharz's book this past semester with my undergraduates and found that it was a wonderful text. The students were equally enthusiastic about it."--Jay Harper, Hunter College "An excellent source on recent research methods used by feminists in the social sciences."--Contemporary Sociology "Finally--the detail and attention to the care taken by feminist scholars in their transformation of social science investigation. Clearly organized and well-documented."--Janet Huber Lowry, Austin College "A comprehensive, up to date, and balanced text. Very readable."--Linda Grant, University of Georgia "Fantastic!"--Michael Hill, University of Nebraska "Is in itself a statement. It fulfills the so long needed presentation of a 'methodology' deeply and directly associated to what we are beginning to know as 'feminism' or 'feminist ideology'. A valuable source for many a discipline in the social sciences; sociology, psychology, political science and the humanities...Reinharz provides an extensive and scholarly work that will serve to all of us involved in the theory and methods of a new emancipating ideology."--Alfonso R. Latoni, University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez "Excellent effort, and well-written. It is of use in the usual social science research course as well as in courses where students need to be sensitized to a feminist perspective on social issues."--Fred W. Danser, Talladega College "Welcome addition to the field, adding a sourcebook for sensitive areas of conducting social research. This volume will inform students on the reasons why research has specific concerns for women in society, as researcher and subject."--Chet Ballard, Valdosta State College "An excellent compilation and synopsis of the most exciting area of social research methods--filled with important innovations."--Sanford F. Schram, Macalester College "Great--a real addition to women's studies and the social sciences. Much needed."--Judith L. Gibbons, St. Louis University "Definitely deserves to be set before students in upper-division feminist theory and research courses and used to supplement standard methods texts in courses for sociology majors. Reinharz's major themes--the 'situated' nature of all research and the blending of research process and product--are terribly important, and she presents them well. The bibliography is breathtaking. This book will help feminists of all stripes to see where they can fit into the research adventure."--Arlene Kaplan Daniels, Northwestern University "Very exciting: the first book of its kind and an important contribution to the field. It would serve equally well in graduate methodology courses and as a supplemental text at the undergraduate level. I love this book."--Sharlene Hesse-Biber, Boston College "Uniquely fills a void by emphasizing what feminist social scientists actually do, rather than exhorting them to adopt a particular method. It demonstrates that a diversity of methods has been of great value to feminist scholarship, it raises important questions about doing research, and it is astonishing in its breadth--the bibliography alone could serve as a catalogue of feminist research over the last two decades. I recommend it enthusiastically to all students of social research methods, especially those in sociology, anthropology, and psychology"--Stephanie Riger, University of Illinois at Chicago "A major intellectual resource, Feminist Methods in Social Research draws the reader into issues that cross disciplinary, methodological, and national traditions. It stirs the imagination."--Barrie Thorne, University of Southern California "Pathbreaking...there is nothing else like it in the field."--Mary Roth Walsh, University of Massachusetts, Lowell "An intellectual breakthrough that will force revision of all existing paradigms. Essential for anyone involved in any kind of research."--Dale Spender "This is an excellent text, thoroughly researched, yet accessible to the student reader."--Naomi McCormick, State University of New York at Plattsburgh "Excellent resource for advanced undergraduates in women's studies and graduate students in any field related to gender, race, and class studies. Opens up new vistas for feminist research."--Bonnie Spanier, State University of New York at Albany "The book is highly readable. The bibliography alone is worth the price of the book. The strength of the book lies in its presentation of how feminists, in all their diversity, actually do research."-- ournal of Marriage and the Family "Excellent--a refreshing perspective and challenge to existing methods literature!"--Patricia L. Stuhr, Ohio State University "Claims a prime location on my 'good books' shelf. I think anyone remotely interested in feminism or research methods will want a copy. It will be an excellent addition to a graduate methods or feminist methods course. There is no other book like it; it chronicles, nourishes, and leads the way. It is at once our history and our future....Reinharz's goal is to demystify feminist research and to contribute to the ongoing conversation among feminists and between feminists and antifeminists. In my reading, she has reached her goal."--American Journal of Sociology "An excellent and comprehensive work! This book should be read by every educated individual, but especially by social scientists, by students in all research methods courses, by all social policy planners, makers, and implementers, as it provides a perspective that has been lacking in many scholarly works and in many areas of practice."--M.F. Stuck, State University of New York Oswego "Essential for anyone who is engaged in research. It could be used in teaching social work research as a useful complement to traditional texts and antidote for orthodoxy."--Joan M. Cummerton, San Francisco State University "This book deserves to be read word for word in order to obtain some idea of the variations and emphases and insights of feminist research.
Reseña del editor:
Shulamit Reinharz here examines the wide range of experiments feminist researchers undertake. Her goal is to help explain the relationship between feminism and methodology and to challenge stereotypes that might exist about 'feminist research methods'. Reinharz concludes that there is no one feminist method, but rather a variety of perspectives or questions that feminists bring to traditional methods. She argues that this diversity of methods has been of great value to feminist scholarship. She also includes an extensive bibliography which catalogues feminist scholarship over the last two decades. There are a few edited volumes on the subject but currently no authored text.
