Meet Captain Ben Blunder, the pirate who put the swash in swashbuckling and the buckle on his belt and the rest of the crew of the good ship Mad Maggot. Sweaty Sam is not a character to be soon forgotten, he is the Mad Maggot’s cook and his name says it all! Of course where there are pirates there will be parrots. Polly is great to have around when the Mad Maggot springs a leak, as he makes great Pollyfilla! These are just three out of a whole host of weird and wonderful pirates.

Colin Hawkins was born in 1945 in Blackpool. He decided to take up writing and illustrating children’s books in the early 1980s because he wanted to “make children’s books funnier”.
Jacqui Hawkins was born in 1947 in Oxford, she went to Goldsmiths College to study Graphic Design.
