Melbourne: John Ferres, Government Printer, . 23pp., printed on blue paper. Folio. Gathered signatures, string-tied as issued. About fine. In a folding cloth chemise and half morocco and cloth slipcase, spine gilt. Galton, a Captain in the Royal Engineers, presented this report to the Legislative Assembly on September 1, 1857. Galton travelled through the United States in 1856 and reports on the American railroad system, including proposed transcontinental lines, national legislation and its effect on localities (Illinois is a case study), railroad company constitutions, construction of roads, funding and management (including that of the New York and Erie line). The American rail system was indeed a model for the Australian railroads. This Australian printing does not include the plates and map found in the London printing. N° de ref. de la librería 1468
